Sania Mirza and Alicia Molik registered a convincing win over Jelena Kostanic and Angelique Widjaja to advance to the doubles semifinals at the USD 200,000 WTA Tour event in Istanbul, Turkey.
Mirza-Molik drubbed the Croatian-Indonesian pair in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 in the quarterfinal of the Tier III event on Thursday.
The Indo-Australian pair next faces Yuliana Fedak of Ukraine and Eva Hrdinova of Czech Republic, who beat the Russian pair of Vasilisa Davydova and Olga Panova 6-2, 6-4 in their second round match.
They had got a walkover from top seeds Anna-Lena Groenefeld of Germany and American Meghann Shaughnessy in the first round after Shaughnessy pulled out due to a sprained right ankle.
Mirza's singles journey ended following her second round defeat at the hands of Michaella Krajicek of the Netherland but a better show in the doubles should keep her in good stead ahead of the French Open Grand Slam beginning Sunday.
