Luck finally shone on three-time champions Mohun Bagan.
Under new coach Biswajit Bhattacharya, the Kolkata giants secured their first victory in the 10th National Football League, prevailing over Fransa Pax 2-0 in Kolkata on Thursday.
Sushil Kumar Singh and Kofi Agbesi found the mark in the first half to give Bagan their first victory after seven matches.
Dominating from the start, they went ahead in the 24th minute, when striker Sushil Singh, after receiving a through from Noel Wilson, set out on a run, dodged past a defender and placed the ball into the goal with a right-footer.
The home side consolidated their position six minutes later following a good combined move. Sushil played wall with Ibrahim and then released to Agbesi, who scored with a first-timer.
With their two foreign strikers --Ibrahim and Agbesi -- putting up a dazzling show, Bagan caused panic in the opponent's defence time and again, and could have ended the day with a larger victory margin had they not wasted some gilt-edged opportunities.
The upright also stood in the way of Bagan seconds before half-time when Ibrahim set up Sushil and the latter's effort hit the post before going out.
Fransa, on the defensive for most part of the game, came closest to scoring in the 70th minute, but Bello Rasaq's header off a Santa singh free-kick came off the crosspiece.
Bagan now have eight points from as many matches, while Fransa are precariously placed on three points from seven games.
