The bail of India's Commonwealth Games contingent masseur Dewan Asgar Nabi, charged with "indecent assault" on a girl in Melbourne, was on Wednesday extended by a local court till Friday.
Magistrate Paul Smith, while extending the bail, asked Nabi to appear before the court on Friday again, H J Dora, chef-de-mission of the Indian contingent said.
Indian Olympic Association counsel Paul Horvath informed the court that Nabi denies the charges. Two lawyers are assisting Nabi in the case.
Nabi was produced by the Victoria Police before the Melbourne magistrate on Wednesday morning.
Nabi, a masseur attached to the National Institute of Sports, Patiala, was accused of misbehaving with a volunteer who had come to his room for housekeeping.
The Australian girl, working as a volunteer at the Games Village, complained to the special village-based police, accusing Nabi of attempting to hug, kiss and fondle her when she went to clean his room.
Thirty-five-year old Nabi, who cannot converse in any language other than Punjabi and Hindi, was later detained for interrogation.
Victoria State Police charged Nabi on one count of indecent assault and another of unlawful assault. If guilty, he faces a maximum penalty of two years' imprisonment.
The Indian Olympic Association has already cancelled the masseur's accreditation and suspended him from the Indian contingent.
