Good times back for Indian hockey

India's bronze medal winning display at the Sultan Azlan Shah hockey tournament in Kuala Lumpur has brought the smiles back on the face left Indian Hockey Federation president K P S Gill.

Apart from Gill, who has been severely criticised by the media for failing to deliver, the performance will also be a boost for coach Vasudevan Baskaran, who was recently reappointed after spending some time in the wilderness.

"I congratulated the coach and the Indian captain. But this performance is not something that was long time coming. Recently, we had some good wins at the junior level, while the seniors won a major tournament in 2004," Gill said on Monday.

"The Indian Hockey Federation is not planning to publicise the win as a major achievement and the boys would disperse from Chennai [where they landed on Monday morning].

"They will reassemble in the first week of July for the next training camp," Gill said.
