Sania Mirza's campaign in the $200,000 DFS Classic tennis tournament came to an end when she lost in the first round of the doubles in Birmingham on Friday.
The Indian ace, partnering Francesca Schiavone of Italy, lost to Elena Vesnina of Russia and Chinese Zi Yan 6-4, 2-6, 2-6 in an hour and 44 minutes.
Sania's campaign in the singles had ended with a third round defeat to American qualifier Meilen Tu. She lost 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7/3).
The Indian, who refused to speak to the press after her defeat, later said in a statement that cramps contributed to her defeat.
