It was a day of mixed fortunes for India at the French Open with Leander Paes entering the second round and Sania Mirza bowing out in the mixed doubles at Roland Garros in Paris on Saturday.
Paes and Russian Maria Kirilenko shrugged off a patchy display to beat America's Mike Bryan and Meghann Shaughnessy 6-3, 1-6, 6-2.
On the other hand, Sania and Australian Paul Hanley staged a late recovery but it was not enough to prevent a 0-6, 4-6 defeat to another US combination, Martina Navratilova and Bob Bryan.
Paes and Kirilenko face the French pairing of Severine Bremond and Marc Gicquel in the second round.
