Sania Mirza and her US partner Bethanie Mattek eased past the Russian-Ukrainian pair of Alla Kudrayavtseva and Tetiana Luzhanska 6-1, 6-3 to set up a second round clash with Shikha Uberoi and Jelena Jankovic at the Bank of the West Classic in Stanford.
The Indo-US pair will face a tough opposition in the form of Sania's Fed Cup partner Shikha and Serbian Jelena, who caused a major upset by beating the top seeded pair of Japan's Ai Sugiyama and Slovakian Daniela Hantuchova 6-3, 6-4 in their first round match.
Sania, who crashed out of the singles event in the first round losing in straight sets to 98th ranked Russian Vasilisa Bardina, continued with her good doubles form in the WTA Tier-II hardcourt event.
Sania and Bethanie were hardly tested by Alla and Tetiana, who struggled to match up to the aggressive Indo-US duo. The first set proved to be a cakewalk for Sania and Bethanie as they dropped only one game to wrest the initiative.
The second set followed almost the similar pattern as Alla and Tetiana surrendered the match easily.
