India clinched an unexpected bronze medal in the men's Greco Roman wrestling event of the Asian Games when Vinayak Dalvi won his last bout in the 55 kg category on Sunday.

The 21-year-old Dalvi won his first bout in the morning session but lost the second in the evening. However, the play-off for the bronze medal was necessitated as Kyrgyzstan's Rinat Usupjanov also had an identical three points at the Aspire Hall.

In the bronze-medal bout, the Indian beat Rinat 3-1 with 11 technical points as against eight by his rival.

After winning the bronze, Dalvi said "I was confident and I was fully trained for the event.

"I am aiming for a gold in the Olympics now," he added.
