India slipped to the bottom of Group A in the women's handball at the Asian Games after receiving a 17-38 thrashing at the hands of Kazakhstan in a group match in Doha on Friday.

The Indians could not match their superior opponents who opened up a 18-12 lead by the half time and maintained their stranglehold right through the second session to register a facile victory at the Al Gharrafa Indoor Hall.

Anita Kumari was the pick of the Indian players scoring seven points while Sangita Tiwari picked up three points in the lopsided contest.

With this defeat, India are languishing at the bottom of the table having lost both their league matches. They had lost to China 19-56 in their opening clash.

Kazakhstan topped Pool 'A' with four points followed by China who have two points to their credit.

India will play their last league match against Uzbekistan on Tuesday.

Indian coach Radha Rani Ahlawat was understandably disappointed with the performance of the team.

"We struggled when two of our key players got injured. It was like the front wheel coming off a car. Then a back wheel. You can't drive. We lost all our hopes after that," she said.

"We surely have to win our next match against Uzbekistan. We are looking forward to it," she said.
