India's Alok Kumar entered the quarter-finals of the men's eight-ball pool singles while compatriots Anuja Thakur and Chitra Magimairaj bit the dust in the round of 32 in the corresponding women's event at the Asian Games in Doha on Friday.
Kumar, a national champion in both snooker and billiards in the past, showed good cue touch to easily dismiss the challenge from South Korea's Jeong Young Hwa to enter the last eight.
He will meet Antonio Gabica of the Philippines for a berth in the semi-finals.
However, both Anuja and Chitra were found out of depth in a game they are not familiar with and bowed out without a fight.
While Anuja lost 3-7 to China's Zhou Meng Meng, Chitra was beaten 7-2 by Filipino rival Amit Rubilen.
