Sania Mirza and India's pursuit for a maiden women's tennis team title at the Asian Games will have to wait for another day as rain played spoilsport at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex in Doha on Thursday.

The finals of the men's and women's team events were scheduled to be played in the afternoon but heavy rain prevented the scheduled start.

After waiting for around four hours for the rain to stop, the tournament's technical committee decided to reschedule the finals for Friday.

''The earlier scheduled matches will now be played on Friday,'' a statement said.

India clash with Chinese Taipei for the gold and title in women's team event.

In the semi-finals, while Sania, ranked 67th in the world had an easy outing, Shikha had to sweat it out before quelling the spirited challenge of Akgul Amanmuradova with a hard-fought 7-6, 4-6, 6-3 victory in a marathon tussle that lasted 189 minutes.

Sania hardly had to break a sweat in the second singles, getting the better of Iroda Tulyaganova 6-3 6-0 in 54 minutes.

Taipei defeated a spirited Japan 2-1.

In the men's team semi-finals, Japan got the better of Thailand 2-1 while Korea prevailed over Taipei by an identical margin.
