Saina lost the first game against Hataya of Japan to clinch the issue 13-21 21-9 21-16 in the second round.

India's challenge in the men's singles ended with Anup Sridhar and P Kashyap losing their respective matches on Wednesday.
National Champion Sridhar handed over a first game advantage to lose the gruelling tie 16-21 21-13 21-15. Philippines Kamivic Asuncian caused Kashyap's exit with a 21-17 21-19 win.
Other players in singles Arvind Bhat, Ajay Jayram and Anand Pawar had failed to clear the first round hurdle.
