The Punjab and Sind Bank scraped past defending champions Border Security Force (Jalandhar) 1-0 to win the 111th All India Beighton Cup Hockey Tournament in Kolkata on Monday.
Mandeep Singh scored the all important goal for PSB in the 32nd minute of the game, ensuring sweet revenge for his team's loss to the BSF outfit in the quarterfinal group league of the tournament.
In an otherwise mediocre match, PSB enjoyed a slight advantage and won four penalty corners while BSF could extract only two.
Both the bankmen and the BSF players put up a strong defence and the play was mainly concentrated in the midfield with not many openings having been created by any of the teams.
PSB have won the prestigious hockey tournament four times now.
Gurwinder Chandi of PSB won the best player award in the final.
While champion PSB got a cash award of Rs 1.25 lakhs, runners-up BSF were richer by Rs 50,000.
Indian Airlines, which had lost out to BSF in the semi-final, won the fair play trophy.
The awards were given away by Kolkata's Mayor Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya.
