Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore failed to reach the final of the double-trap event at the ISSF World Cup in Quingyuan, China, on Friday.
The Olympic silver medallist finished a disappointing eighth.
Rathore, who grabbed the double-trap gold in the recently-concluded Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, fired 136, with scores of 44, 46, 46, but missed the final by a point.
Other Indians also did not perform well. Ronjan Sodhi finished 20th with a score of 128 (44, 42, 42) while Vikram Bhatnagar was 36th with a score of 117 (41, 40, 36).
Vitaly Fokeev of Russia clinched the gold medal, firing 191 (143+48), while Sweden's Hakan Dahlby (137+49) and China's Binyuan Hu (138+45) won the silver and bronze respectively.
