India went out of the reckoning for top honours after being held to a 1-1 draw by Scotland in the women's Junior World Cup hockey tournament in Santiago, Chile.
After a barren first half, India took the lead when skipper Jasjeet Kaur Handa converted a penalty-corner in the 57th minute with a reverse stick deflection.
But India could not hold on to the lead for long as Scotland equalized minutes before the hooter. They scored through Kim Macgregor in the 68th minute and handed India their third draw of the tournament.
During the match, India looked more dangerous in attack, forcing a couple of good saves from Scottish goalkeeper Catherine Rae.
However, India paid the price for their inability to capitalise on the numerous scoring opportunities that came their way and are now likely to fight for 9-12 places.
They finish their league engagements with a match against defending champions Korea.
