Rushmi Chakravarthy and Sanaa Bhambri carved out victories in contrasting styles to move into the second round of the qualifiers at the USD 170,000 WTA Sunfeast Open in Kolkata on Saturday.
Chakravarthy, seeded sixth in the qualifiers, breezed passed local girl Ragini Vimal 6-1, 6-3 in the day's first match at the Netaji Indoor Stadium.
Vimal seemed no match for the seasoned Chakravarthy who unleashed a series of winners to run away with the match and set up a second round clash with Chin-wei Chan of Chinese Taipei who had a bye in the opening round.
Seventh seed Bhambri, on the other hand, faced a little more resistance from Poonam Reddy before fashioning a 7-5, 6-4 win. She will now lock horns with another Chinese Taipei player Chia-jung Chuang in the second round on Sunday.
