India's ace long jumper Anju Bobby George came up with a spectacular jump of 6.75 metres to win the silver medal in the women's long jump at the World Athletics final in Monaco on Friday night.
Anju's season's best effort was enough to fetch her silver in the elite event, behind Russia's Tatyana Kotova, who cleared 6.83. Grace Upshaw of the United States took the bronze medal with a leap of 6.67 metres.
Anju's performance comes less than a week of her gold medal-winning effort of 6.65 metres at the 16th Asian Athletics Championship in Incheon, South Korea.
The lanky south Indian long jumper surpassed her best of the season (6.66 metre) at the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki last month.
Anju made a remarkable comeback after two foul jumps in her first two attempts, getting the silver-wining jump in her third.
Number one Kotova, whose first jump of 6.78 metres had put her ahead of the field clinched the issue on her final attempt with an effort of 6.83 metres.
