Pakistan captain Muhammad Saqlain was on Sunday suspended for one match after he was found guilty of injuring a player during the match against Korea in the Azlan Shah Cup hockey tournament in Kuala Lumpur.

The suspension was handed over to the Pakistan captain this morning by the Tournament Director Frank van't Hek after a South Korean appeal was upheld.

The Koreans had appealed against Saqlain for striking their defender Sung Hoon Yeon after playing the ball in the clash between the two Asian powerhouses last night.

The signed statement of the Technical Director said this decision was taken in view of the said act and in addition to set an example as the player concerned was his team's captain.

The injured Sung Hoon Yeon had to be stretchered out of the field and then taken to hospital from where he was later discharged.

With this suspension, which in fact amounts to Saqlain being red carded, the Pakistan skipper will miss the game against South Africa later on Sunday.
