India qualified for the World Youth Cup championship 2006 by winning the bronze medal play-off in the fifth Asian Youth boys' volleyball championship in Tehran, Iran.
After losing to hosts Iran 19-25, 15-25, 22-25 in the semi-finals late Wednesday night, the defending champions scored over Chinese Taipei 25-21, 25-22, 25-22 to clinch the third place and also a berth in the world event.
Meanwhile, Thailand defeated Australia 25-23, 25-22, 25-23 for seventh place, while Japan came from behind to win against China 22-25, 25-15, 28-26, 25-15 for the fifth spot.
Iran will play Korea in the final on Thursday night.
