Australia's Alicia Molik has pulled out of this month's French Open with an inner-ear infection.

The world number eight has been diagnosed with vestibular neuronitis, a condition that has sapped her energy and made her dizzy.

Molik's manager, Lisa Chaffey, released a statement saying Molik would take an immediate break from tennis to freshen up before Wimbledon.

"She's going to have to lie low for the time being and, as frustrating as it is, it was just not going to be feasible for her to go to the French Open," Chaffney said.

Molik has been one of the most improved players on the women's circuit in the past 12 months and looms as a contender for Wimbledon because of her booming serve.

The 24-year-old won this year's Sydney international singles title then paired up with Russia's Svetlana Kuznetsova to capture the Australian Open doubles title.
