Sporting Clube de Goa beat Vasco Sports Club 3-0 and moved to the fourth position in the ninth National Football League in Margao on Sunday.
Sporting Clube de Goa, who were leading 2-0 at half time, scored through Joseph Pereira (12th minute, 61st) and Alvito Rodrigues (37th).
Vasco, who had two wins over Kolkata's Mohun Bagan and Tollygunge, failed to get past the rival defence although they had a couple of scoring chances. Sidney Rodrigues and Fabio Soares failed to find the target.
The win took Sporting to fourth place with 17 points from 10 matches. While Vasco, who finished their first phase league engagements, are at the bottom with 8 points from 11 matches.
Sporting, who had lost to Churchill Brothers in their last match, today had the match under their control. Striker Edeh Chidi, along with Alvito Rodrigues and Joseph Pereira, kept on probing into the rival half, with the side taking the lead in 12th minute.
Cedric Peixoto, who took the flag kick, floated the ball to Joseph Pereira, who uncorked an angular drive that beat goalkeeper Virender Singh to find the far post.
Chidi, who troubled the rival defence constantly, helped Rodrigues to increase the lead when he got the better of a rival defender and squared to Alvito, who beat Virender with ease.
Joseph Pereira then clinched the issue after the break when he scored his second goal off a pass from Edeh Chidi. Joseph was later declared the Man of the Match.
