Triple Olympic gold medallist Marion Jones was beaten into second place by her former training partner Chandra Sturrup for the second time in four days on Wednesday.

Battling against a headwind of 1.4 metres a second, Jones clocked 11.67 seconds to Sturrup's 11.42. Jones also lost to the Bahamian in the Dutch town of Hengelo on Sunday.

Jones, 29, has been banned by the majority of promoters in the Euro-League group that organises Europe's major meetings because of her association with the BALCO laboratory in California.

Her partner Tim Montgomery, the world 100 metres record holder, appeals to the Court of Arbitration next week against a possible life ban for serious doping after a federal raid on BALCO.

Jones, who failed to win a medal at last year's Athens Olympics after gathering five at the 2000 Sydney Games, now flies back to the United States for Saturday's Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, California. Montgomery is also scheduled to run.

"I kind of fell asleep in the blocks," she told reporters on Wednesday. "Once I did that the race was over. The second half of the race was better than in Hengelo."
