Sunil Kumar Sipaeya upset top seed David Sherwood of Britain in straight sets to remain the only Indian left in the fray in the USD 15,000 ITF Futures men's tennis tournament at New Delhi on Thursday.
Sipaeya had an unexpectedly easy passage to the semi-finals as he defeated Sherwood 6-3, 6-4 at the DLTA Complex.
Sipaeya will be up against 18-year old Uzbek Denis Istomin who accounted for compatriot Murad Inoyatov 6-2, 6-4 in their quarter-final match.
The other Indian in the last eight, Ajay Ramaswami put up some strong resistance at the start before going down 7-5, 6-1 to second seed Simon Greul.
Another seed to be ejected was Dekel Valtzer of Israel who went down 7-6 (7/3), 6-1 to Lester Cook of the US.
Later in the day, Harsh Mankad and Ajay Ramaswami claimed their second final berth in a row with a 6-4, 7-6 (7/2) win over Divij Sharan and Vivek Shokeen.
Valtzer and Ashutosh Singh took the other final spot after clinching a nerve-wracking 7-6 (7/3), 7-6 (7/2) against Istomin and Inoyatov.
