Olympic men's singles gold medallist Taufik Hidayat has been named the International Badminton Federation's player of the year for 2004.
The 23-year-old Indonesian was unseeded in Athens but stormed to success, dropping only one game in his five matches before claiming the Olympic title over South Korea's Shon Seung-mo.
Hidayat also captured the Asian championship, played a key part in Indonesia's Thomas Cup campaign and won the Indonesian Open for a fifth time.
Previous IBF award winners include Danes Peter Gade (1998), his ex-fiancee Camilla Martin (1999) and South Korea's Kim Dong-moon (2002).
