Spanish Davis Cup hero Carlos Moya [ Images ] has decided to skip the men's team competition this season to focus on the Grand Slam tournaments and the Masters Cup.

"I've made this difficult decision in order to focus on the regular tournaments of the professional circuit... the grand slam tournaments and a return to the Masters Cup are my priorities for this season," he said in a statement on Wednesday.
"At 28, I still have very high objectives in my professional career and this season I need to focus on specific competitions and dates."
After the heartache of missing out on Spain's first Davis Cup victory in 2000, Moya tamed world number two Andy Roddick [ Images ] in an overheated final in Seville last month to hand Spain their second title.
The popular Mallorcan had also played in the 2003 Davis Cup final in which Spain lost to Australia [ Images ].
"To take part in such a fascinating competition and be lucky enough to win the trophy has been the best professional experience of my career," Moya said.
