India's doubles ace Mahesh Bhupathi and partner Jonas Bjorkman were defeated in the final of the Chennai Open by Germany's Rainer Schuettler and Taipei's Yen Hshun Lu at the Nungambakam stadium.
Schuttler and Lu upset the top-seeded pair of Bhupathi and Bjorkman 7-5, 4-6, 7-6(7-4) on Sunday night.
In a tense encounter, Bhupathi and Bjorkman came back hard from a set down to level the scores with a win in the second set. It all boiled down to the decider third set, as Lu and Schuettler hung on to pack the killer punch in the tie-breaker, winning 7-4 to clinch the title.
