Sporting Clube de Goa quelled a late resurgence from Salgaocar to win by a solitary goal and register their third successive victory in the National Football League, at the Nehru stadium in Margao, Goa, on Saturday.
Dudu Omagbemi, who has been Sporting's inspiriation in attack, scored the all-important goal in the seventh minute when he headed home a flag-kick from Nicholas Rodrigues from the right.
The early goal demoralised Salgaocar's spirit. Sporting held more possession but failed to convert the chances that came their way.
Salgaocar came back strongly in the last quarter of the second half but lacked finishing.
Susbtitute Jerose Oliverira and Felix Ibrebru failed to scored when ideally placed.
The victory took Sporting Clube de Goa to fifth place in the league table with 13 points from six matches while Salgaocar remain on 11 points from 10.
