Kolkata's Tollygunge Agragami and Mumbai champions Mahindra United were involved in a 1-1 draw in a seventh round match in the National Football League at the Cooperage, in Mumbai, on Friday.
Tollygunge drew first blood, but were lucky to snatch a point from the local outfit in the end.
The Kolkata side forged ahead when Mahindra United central defender N S Manju misjudged the flight of Gauranga Dutta's floater from the right. Tollygunge striker Surajit Bose made the most the opportunity and caught rival goalkeeper Sandip Nandy by surprise as he deftly tapped the ball to the far corner.
However, the Kolkata outfit's joy was short-lived as two minutes later Mahindra's Brazilian striker Rodrigo de Almeida scored the equaliser following a free-kick by Jatin Bisht from the right.
After restoring parity Mahindra United tightened the screws on the opponents. They created a series of clear chances but poor marksmanship by the strikers denied them the match-winner.
Mahindra's best chances were a 20-yard left-footed drive from Surkumar that kissed the horizontal and went over, and Venkatesh's powerful try, which was blocked by goalkeeper Arindam Ghosh.
