Sports Minister Sunil Dutt says the government is committed towards making the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi "hugely" successful.

"We will ensure that the 2010 Commonwealth Games becomes one of the greatest sports shows. Once we decide to do something, we do not look back. We will give our best shot," Dutt told reporters after a meeting with Commonwealth Games Federation president Michael Fennel on Tuesday.

When his attention was drawn to the environmental concerns raised about the construction of the Games village near river Yamuna, Dutt said, "Everything will be done according to a master plan and after consulting experts."

Fennel, who is in Delhi to oversee preparations for the event, said his meeting with the sports minister was "excellent and satisfactory" but did not give details.

"All I can say is that we had an excellent meeting. I am satisfied," he said after emerging from the 30 minute meeting, which was also attended by Indian Olympic Association president Suresh Kalmadi and its secretary-general Randhir Singh.

Asked whether he suggested any measures in the meeting for the successful conduct of the games, Fennel replied in a lighter vein, "No, who am I to suggest anything?"

Earlier, the Dutt presented a statuette of 'Ganesha' to Fennel and told him, "We begin every good thing with Lord Ganesha and wish success. This will be a new beginning."
