The Chinese pair of Jin Long and Tian Pengfai and the Indian duo of Yasin Merchant and Pankaj Advani emerged the most successful of the nine pairs in action, recording two victories each in the round robin phase of the Reid & Taylor-Bombay Gymkhana Insta Snooker Tournament in Mumbai on Tuesday.

However, it was Jin Long and Tian Pengfai who found fluidity and precision from the first outing itself and managed to cross the 500 mark in the five sessions of 20 minutes while outclassing Geet Sethi and Omar Balsara 527-168.

Breaks of 77 and 88 by Pengfai in the third and fourth frames were the highlight of their victory.

They then returned for their second match and defeated Rupesh Shah and Neeraj Kumar 362-219.

Yasin and Aditya did not have big breaks to show for their victories, but they did manage to keep the scoreboard moving on evry visit to the table.

They first defeated Alok Kumar and Manan Chandra 316-256, thanks to a break of 66 from Advani in his last visit to the table and then returned to get the better of the Pakistani duo of Salesh Mohd and Mohd Yusuf 336-237.

However, the biggest break of the day came from Manan Chandra, which enabled him and Alok Kumar score a close 325-310 victory over the Thai pair of Kobkit Palajin and Nitiwat Kanjanasri.

Trailing throughout the match, Chandra conjured up the magic in the concluding frame, his break of 113 helping to overhaul the Thais and win the encounter.

He also had a break of 59 in the se ond frame, which somehow helped them to keep within striking distance of the Thais, with Alok Kumar yet to find his rhythm.

Geet Sethi and Omar Balsara, who had a disastrous beginning to their campaign, losing both their matches, made amends in the third, defeating Devendra Joshi and Aditya Mehta 320-254.

For Joshi and Mehta it was two defeats out of three, their victory coming against UAE's Mohd Joker and Mohd Shehab, where Mehta showed evidence of his class with a beak of 92 in the third frame.
