Pakistan were comprehensively outplayed by the Netherlands 4-1 in the Champions Trophy hockey tournament in Chennai on Saturday.
Exhibiting all-round hockey, the Netherlands, who led 2-0 at the break, kept a tight hold throughout the match and Pakistan had to be content with the consolation goal by Mudassar Ali Khan.
For the Dutch, Matthijis Bouwer (5th minute), Teuun de Nooijer (13th), Ronals Brouwer (44th) and Rob Reckers (61st) scored the goals.
In the other matches of the day, Olympic champions Australia began their quest in style, scoring an authoritative 4-1 win over former winners Germany while Spain beat India 2-1.
Jamie Dwyer (14th and 36th), Nathan Eglington (30th) and Brent Livermore (39th) were the scorers for Australia while Christopher Zeller came up with the consoloation goal for the Germans in the 61st minute.
Eduard Tabau (21st minute) and Pablo Amat (52nd) scored for Spain while Kanwalpreet Singh (29th) accounted for India's goal.
