East Bengal football coach Subhas Bhowmick was arrested on Friday by Central Bureau of Investigation sleuths for allegedly accepting a bribe.
The famed former Indian football team striker was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 150,000 from a businessman near Calcutta South Club, in southern Kolkata, CBI sources said.
Bhowmick is an employee of the anti-evasion department of Central Excise. He has been sent to CBI custody and would be produced in the court on Saturday.
Acting on a complaint from the businessman that Bhowmick had demanded a bribe for favouring him in connection with a raid on November 30, the CBI sleuths laid a trap for Bhowmick and arrested him.
