The International Hockey Federation (FIH) has warned the Pakistan team over an incident involving their captain Muhammad Saqlain in a match against Australia in the Hamburg Masters Tournament.
The report sent to FIH by Tournament Director Alain Renaud said that last Sunday Australian striker Craig Victory had to seek immediate hospitalisation and dental treatment after he received facial injuries during the match against Pakistan.
The FIH held a meeting on Tuesday, attended by Els van Breda Vriesman (FIH President), Tony von Ondarzar (FIH Vice President), Saeed Khan (Pakistan Team Manager) and Steve Catton (Tournament Director Rabo Trophy), where the Pakistan hockey team was cautioned about this and informed that further investigation will take place in due course.
FIH also said that a team captain is expected to play an exemplary role during the game.
Saqlain was dropped on disciplinary grounds before the Athens Olympics and was red carded during the last Azlan Shah Cup in May at Kuala Lumpur for frayed temper and attack on a rival player.
