Former Davis Cupper and second seed Nitin Kirtane, completed a grand double winning the men's singles and doubles title at the Hero Honda Pune Open Men's National Ranking Tennis Championship in Pune on Saturday.

Kirtane defeated top seed Aditya Madkekar 6-1, 6-3 in the men's single final in almost clinical fashion and later teamed up with Purav Raja of Mumbai to crush local challengers Gautam Samarth and Siddharth Patil 6-2, 6-3 to win the doubles title and total prize money of Rs 9,000.

Kirtane, who plays for Western Railway avenged the defeat he had suffered at the hands of top seed and Central Railway stalwart Aditya Madkekar in the All India Inter Railways Tennis Championship at Delhi.

"I tried to avenge the defeat right from the first point. I planned my move to make him move around from the very first serve," he said.

Madkekar was able to hold on to his serve only once before Kirtane went on to wrap the set 6-1.

In the second set despite Madkekar raising the level of his game, Nitin never wavered either in his strategy or play and went on to break his rival's serve in the 5th and 7th games to wrap up the serve and the match.

"I committed too many unforced errors. Nitin on his part was quite sharp today and never allowed me to settle down," Madkekar said.

Later Kirtane teamed up with Raja to end the good run of local challengers Patil and Samarth 6-2, 6-3 and pick up 12 AITA points.

Results:

Men's singles final: Nitin Kirtane (Mah) bt Aditya Madkekar (Mah) 6-1, 6-3.

Double final: Nitin Kirtane and Purav Raja (Mah) bt Gautam Samarth and Siddarth Patil (Mah) 6-2, 6-3.
