Third seed Rushmi Chakravarthi of India overcame a first set scare, while No. 6 Petra Cetkovska crashed to an unseeded player in second round action, in the US$10,000 ITF Women's Tennis Tournament, sponsored by Rajesh Kumar Wadhawan Charitable Trust, at the Practennis School of Tennisin Mumbai on Wednesday.
On a day of mixed fortunes for Indians, Chakravarthi beat back an early challenge from unseeded Wilawan Choptang of Thailand to advance to the quarter-finals with a 7-6 (6), 6-2 win. Wild card Shruti Dhawan of Delhi also was forced to endure an early scare before overcoming unseeded Thassha Vitayaviroj of Thailand 3-6, 6-1, 6-2.
On a disastrous day for Thailand, qualifier Pichittra Thongdach became the third Thai girl to crash out after losing to No. 7 seed Yurika Semka of Japan 4-6, 0-6.
Cetkovska was the only seed to fall after being beaten by unseeded Romanian Mihael Buzarnescu 6-3, 0-6, 6-3.
Practennis girls Isha Lakhani and Krushmi Chheda's run came to an abrupt end after both lost in straight sets. Top seed Chin-Wei Chan of Chinese Taipei breezed past Lakhani 6-0, 6-4, while fifth seed Natsumi Hamamura of Japan prevailed over Chheda 6-3, 6-3 in other second round ties.
