State Bank of Travancore, Thiruvananthapuram, held former champions, Mohun Bagan, to a one-all draw in the National Football League for the ONGC Cup in Kozhikode on Tuesday.
Placed at the bottom of the points table, SBT came up with a much improved performance in the first half and even proved superior after scoring first in the 19th minute when forward Abdul Hakkim neatly converted a Naushad pass.
However, the bankmen gradually lost control over the game in the second half when Brazilian Edwerdo Chacon brought in the equaliser for the visitors through a header in the 69th minute.
SBT had only themselves to be blamed for missing a few scoring opportunities from there on as they suddenly went on the defence.
Bagan goalkeeper Subrata Pal was adjudged man-of-the- match for his excellent show under the bar.
SBT continue to remain at the bottom of the table with only 10 points from 15 matches, while Bagan failed to move up from the eighth spot with 16 points from as many outings.
