The country's golf fans are in for some fireworks this Diwali when world number one Vijay Singh arrives to play in the BILT Skins 2004 at the DLF Golf and Country Club, Gurgaon, from November 13 to 14.

It will be the first time when a highest ranked player in the world sets foot on Indian soil to participate in a golf event, skins or otherwise.

Singh recently took over the top spot in world golf from American Tiger Woods and has been on a stupendous winning streak, capturing eight titles, including five of the last six, this season.

The 41-year-old Indian-origin Fijian is also the current world money leader with earnings of $9,455,566, another PGA record.

Singh, who won the inaugural event in 2002, will lead a glittering field that will include this year's British Open champion Todd Hamilton, Indian-origin Swede Daniel Chopra and Justin Rose.

"Vijay [Singh] is a thorough gentleman. When he played in 2002, he said he was interested in coming back again. He was number six then, and now has become the world number one. But he has not gone back on his words and is as ever eager to come to India," BILT vice-chairman and managing director Gautam Thapar said.

With $100,000 (Rs 4.5 million) in prize-money, BILT Skins offers the highest stakes for a single day of golf.
