Advani marches ahead with twin wins

It was a successful day for the Indians in the IBSF World Snooker Championship in Veldhovan in Holland with all the cueists clinching victories in their respective group league matches.

Pankaj Advani [ Images ] won his back-to-back group B matches against Poland's Jaroslaw Kowalski and Anthony Brabin of Cyprus respectively.

The 19-year-old defending champion trounced Kowalski 4-1 scoring 82-48, 58-21, 55-63, 68-50, 72-22 and Brabin with a 4-2 (72-38, 66-36, 18-64, 22-104, 8-121, 0-98) margin, according to information received on Saturday.

Asian champion Alok Kumar clinched a well-deserving win against Cai Jianzhong of Chianese Taipei with the scores of 70-29, 20-74, 45-67, 72-30, 32-72, 90-0, 73-0 in the best of seven frames match in group B.

While national champion Manan Chandra blanked Patrick Devaik of Mauritius 4-0 in his group B tie, Asian Games gold medallist Rafath Habib got points without any effort after he got a walkover from Kevin Zarakari of Sweden in group G.

In the women's section, Anuja Thakur maintained her victorius run with another exciting 3-0 win against Rosanna Lo-A-Tsong of The Netherlands in Group B while Revanna Uma Devi raised her game to beat Natasha Niermann of Germany [ Images ] in Group D in their best of five frames matches.

Meenal Thakur got the better of Saskia Smits of the Netherland in Group C with a 3-1 (31-58, 57-45, 60-9, 72-70) win.

However, in the inaugural Seniors event, India's [ Images ] B V S Murthy lost 2-3 (77-41, 19-76, 68-41, 53-66, 28-70) to Jyri Virtanen of Finland in a keen contest.
