Keeping the Indian flag afloat, tennis sensation Sania Mirza [ Images ] won the US $10,000 Regione House ITF clay tournament in Campobasso, Italy [ Images ] beating Mihalache Magda of Romania 6-3, 6-4 in the final.
Down by 2-3, Sania played some quality tennis and kept her nerve to win four games in a row and emerge victorious with a 6-3 verdict in 40 minutes defeating her opponent ranked 418 in the first set.
Sania had a shaky start in the second set and was trailing 1-4 at one stage. Pulling up her socks, the 17-year-old Wimbledon [ Images ] girls doubles champion bridged the gap with some forceful returns and high serves.
It took another 40 minutes for Sania to settle the issue at 6-4 and win the title vanquishing Magda who played the qualifying round in the U.S. open and the Australian open [ Images ].
With this title, Sania's ranking is expected to move up by 50 points.
