Keeping the Indian flag afloat, tennis sensation Sania Mirza won the US $10,000 Regione House ITF clay tournament in Campobasso, Italy beating Mihalache Magda of Romania 6-3, 6-4 in the final.
Down by 2-3, Sania played some quality tennis and kept her nerve to win four games in a row and emerge victorious with a 6-3 verdict in 40 minutes defeating her opponent ranked 418 in the first set.
Sania had a shaky start in the second set and was trailing 1-4 at one stage. Pulling up her socks, the 17-year-old Wimbledon girls doubles champion bridged the gap with some forceful returns and high serves.
It took another 40 minutes for Sania to settle the issue at 6-4 and win the title vanquishing Magda who played the qualifying round in the U.S. open and the Australian open.
With this title, Sania's ranking is expected to move up by 50 points.
