Russia's Nadia Petrova was the first player into the third round of the French Open after beating Yuliana Fedak 6-0 6-1.
A semi-finalist last year, the eighth seed was never in trouble against the overwhelmed Ukrainian on court two.
Petrova faces either Maria Elena Camerin or Marlene Weingartner next and remains on track for an anticipated fourth round clash with fellow Russian Vera Zvonareva.
Petrova beat Zvonareva in the quarter-finals here last year.
An ill-looking Zvonareva overcame a sluggish start to oust Spain's Magui Serna 5-7 6-1 6-4.
She is likely to meet compatriot and 18th seed Maria Sharapova next.
While Petrova and Zvonareva advanced, lowly seeds Emilie Loit and Lisa Raymond were both ousted.
French 31st seed Loit was beaten 6-4 6-1 by China's Jie Zheng while Raymond, seeded 28th, lost 6-4 6-0 to Arantxa Parra Santonja of Spain.
French third seed Amelie Mauresmo was later due to play Spain's Anabel Medina Garrigues and Belgian top seed Justine Henin-Hardenne was to face Italy's Tathiana Garbin.
In men's action, second seed Andy Roddick plays France's Olivier Mutis while third seed Guillermo Coria takes on Juan Monaco in the pick of the day's play.
