French qualifier Jerome Haehnel made his French Open debut in sensational fashion when he ousted Andre Agassi 6-4, 7-6, 6-3 in the first round on Monday.
Haehnel, 23, had never played a Grand Slam match before and at 271st in the world, was playing his first tour level match against the former world number one on centre court.
However, the Frenchman simply overwhelmed Agassi, who had also lost in the first round of his only previous tournament on clay this season, in St Poelten last week.
Haehnel dismissed the 1999 French Open champion in two hours and two minutes.
It was only the second time in 16 appearance that Agassi was beaten in the first round in Paris after 1998, when he lost to a teenage Marat Safin.
