Tollygunge Agragami made their position precarious in the relegation zone finishing goalless with Vasco Sports Club, Goa, in the eighth National Football League match in Kolkata on Tuesday.
After a sedate first half, which hardly saw a positive move from the rival team, the Kolkata outfit showed urgency in the latter session, but failed to convert the chance which came their way in the Salt Lake stadium match.
After 21 matches, Tollygunge now have 20 points to remain in the tenth position. Sporting, who are in the eleventh spot with 18 points, however, have played one match less. They play Haywards Sporting, Goa, in an away match on Wednesday, and will go past Tollygunge in the event of a win.
Tollygunge's unproductive encounter must be sweet music to numerous fans of Mohun Bagan, another side in the relegation zone with 21 points from as many matches.
The only chance of the first half came Vasco's way when a Levy Coelho pass found Brazilian Marcos Pereira, but the latter's shot crashed against the post, with Tollygunge custodian Chinmoy Banerjee out of position.
Tollygunge, on the other hand, got three opportunities after the breather, but Napoleon Singh, Sandip Das and Amitava Chanda muffed them up.
Vasco now have 25 points from 21 outings.
