Leander Paes and David Rikl conceded their first round match in the Mercedes Open tennis tournament in Stuttgart, Germany, on Tuesday after the Czech player complained of a shoulder muscle pull.
The Indo-Czech pair was trailing 3-5 in the first set against Rainer Schuttler of Germany and Mikhail Youzhny of Russia when Rikl was forced to retire 38 minutes into the match.
The first round exit of Paes and Rikl comes just a couple of days after their triumph in the Swiss Open on Sunday, when they beat the wild card Swiss team of Marc Rosset and Stanislas Wawrinka 6-4, 6-2 in just 56 minutes in the final.
