Peerless struck twice early in the second half to upset fancied Mohammedan Sporting 2-0 in a Kolkata Super Division Football League match at the Barasat stadium on Monday.
After a goalless first session, Peerless went ahead in the 49th minute through Okoli Odafa before Manglem Singh increased the margin four minutes later.
Sporting were the better team on view in the opening half, but were distinctly unlucky as two of their attempts finished at the crosspiece.
The woodwork came in the way of another Sporting try in the second half, but the two goals seemed to snuff the game out of them as Peerless dominated the remaining minutes.
In the 49th minute, a Chanda Debnath centre saw a messy clearance from Naushad Musa and Odafa bulged the net with an outstanding 22-yarder that gave Sporting custodian Chinmoy Banerjee no chance whatsoever.
The insurance goal came in the 53rd minute after Amulya Mandal essayed a pass for Singh.
Sporting now have three points from two matches. Peerless have the same number of points from four outings.
