French Open finalist Elena Dementieva says she rarely talks to fellow Russian Maria Sharapova because "we don't have anything in common".

Asked about her relationship with the 17-year-old Wimbledon champion, Dementieva told Russian daily Izvestia: "Sometimes we see each other (on the WTA Tour) but practically never talk.

"She grew up in America and also trains there, so we don't have anything in common," said the 22-year-old Muscovite.

Dementieva made history last month in Paris by becoming the first Russian woman in 30 years to reach a grand slam final, where she lost to compatriot and close friend Anastasia Myskina.

Dementieva had a disappointing Wimbledon, losing to 129th-ranked Czech Sandra Kleinova in the first round.

"I was so disappointed with my performance at Wimbledon that I decided to take some rest from tennis," she said.

"Of course, I've heard about Sharapova's achievements but to tell the truth, I didn't see a single one of her matches."

Sharapova became the first Russian to win the Wimbledon crown when she crushed Serena Williams 6-1 6-4 in Saturday's final. She also became the third youngest champion in the event's 120-year history.

Dementieva's comments about Sharapova echoed those she made about another Florida-based Russian, Anna Kournikova.

Asked several years ago about her relationship with the glamour girl of tennis, Dementieva said: "We hardly see each other. I live in Moscow and she lives in the United States."
