India defeated England 3-2 to win the Indo-British Charity Cup in the badminton tourney held at the Birmingham Sports Centre on Thursday.
Enthralling a large group of Indian and English lovers of the game, Abhinn Shyam Gupta put India into the lead beating English National Champion Amir Ghaffar 15-9, 15-11.
Trupthi Murgunde managed to quell a stiff challenge from seasoned Julia Mann, ranked world No. 24, with a 11-6, 1-11, 11-7 win and Aravind Bhat humbled Nicholas Kidd 15-13, 15-6 to give India 3-0 lead, according to a release issued by the country's national coach Vimal Kumar.
However, in the doubles, India lost both the matches.
While India's mixed double pair of Diju and Jwala Gutta lost to Nathan Robertson and Donna Kellogg 3-15, 4-15 in men's doubles Sanave and Diju lost to Antony Clark and Nathan Robertson 4-15, 3-15.
The British Charity Cup won by India will be kept at the Birmingham City Council.
