Wild card and sixth seed Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan's spirited fightback was in vain as he went down 6-2, 0-6, 6-4 to second seed and 91-ranked Navdeep Singh in the boys' singles final of the ITF Junior Tennis Tournament (Grade 3) in Chandigarh on Friday.
The girls' final saw fourth seed Pichittra Thongdach of Thailand avenge her defeat to I-Hsuan Hwang of China in the Delhi leg with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over the top seed.
Jeevan, who was given medical attention during the match, did not appear hundred per cent fit. The Chennai player also seemed to lack big match temperament.
In the girls' final fourth seed and 138-ranked Pichittra achieved what she could not in the Delhi leg of the ITF Juniors last week, when she lost to I-Hsua Hwang.
Pichittra avenged her defeat, beating the top seed and 111-ranked Hwang in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 in 70 minutes.
Results (finals):
Boys' singles: 2-Navdeep Singh (Ind) bt 6-Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan (Ind) 6-2,0-6,6-4.
Girls' singles: 4-Pichittra Thongdach (Thailand) bt 1-I-Hsua Hwang (Chinese Taipei) 6-3, 6-1.
