Third seeded Russian and current French Open champion Anastasia Myskina raced into the semi-finals of the Olympic women's singles tennis event today when she blitzed eleventh seeded Italian Francesca Schiavone 6-1, 6-2 in just 55 minutes.
Myskina won the opening game of the match and promptly broke Schiavone in the next to set the tone for a one-sided match. She broke the Italian a second time in the fourth game and held serve to take an impressive 5-0 lead. It was only in the sixth game that Schiavone finally held serve, but that was hardly going to be enough and Myskina served out the set.
The second set began in equally disastrous fashion for the hapless Italian as she was broken in the opening game and the third game to be down 0-4 very quickly. She then held her next two service games, but was unable to convert any of the three break points that she had in the set and Myskina duly won the set.
