Indian sailors Malav Shroff and Sumeet Patel finished 19th and last in the opening race of the 49er class which made its debut in the Olympic Games on Tuesday.
The US-based Indian wild card entrants could never get ahead of the rest of the bunch throughout the race and took the wooden spoon and the resultant penalty of 19 points.
The race was won by the Polish duo of Marcin Czajkowski and Krzysztof Kierkowski.
The race had to be put off from Monday because of strong winds above the permissible limit for this class of boats.
The wind speeds today ranged between 7 and 11 knots.
There are 15 more races for the duo, whose entry had created controversy back home, to redeem themselves.
