India's Majhi Sawaiyan went down tamely to Wunderle Vic of the United States in the opening knockout round of men's individual archery competition at the Panathinaiko Stadium in Athens on Monday.
The 22-year-old Indian armyman lost 128-145.
Majhi, who finished 22nd in the ranking rounds held before the competition, was beaten quite convincingly by the American, a two-time world junior champion.
It was a disappointing start to the proceedings from the same arena which saw India's women archers Reena Kumari and Sumangala Sharma advancing to the second round in convincing fashion on Sunday.
With Majhi's departure, India's hopes in the individual events now rest on Tarundeep Rai and Satyadev Prasad.
